Physical
Our physical wellbeing refers to the physical state of our bodies and our ability to carry out day to day tasks without extreme exhaustion or discomfort. That could mean ensuring we maintain a weight that is healthy for us, brushing our teeth, if we drink or smoke, washing our face, and going to the medical, physical, and nutritional health professionals.
Emotional
Emotional wellbeing refers to our ability to identify and manage the full range of emotions in a healthy manner during both positive and stressful events. An emotionally well person also seeks out professionals when necessary to help with the management of acute and chronic mental health impacts.
Home & Environmental
Home & environmental wellbeing refers to our ability to create, maintain, and/or engage in healthy, clean, balanced, and relaxing environments both at home and in the greater world. Those with good home and environmental wellbeing ensure that they engage in or develop environments that are pleasant, engaging, intellectually stimulating, and support positive well-being for themselves and others.
Financial
Financial wellbeing refers to those that effectively manage their ongoing financial obligations and also plan for the future. They are confident and secure in their financial future and make choices that best suit their short-term and long-term goals.
Occupational
Occupational wellbeing refers to those that engage in jobs and careers that they find satisfying and meaningful. In addition, occupational wellbeing must be in congruent with their financial wellbeing because occupations we engage in should align to our short-term and long-term finances.
Social
Social wellbeing refers to those that seek out, build, and maintain healthy and meaningful relationships. Those with good social wellbeing understand that healthy relationships require communication, boundary setting and respecting, and mutual respect irrespective of our differences.
Intellectual
Intellectual wellbeing refers to those who seek out and engage in activities, hobbies, and relationships with individuals and organizations that encourage us to expand our knowledge, skills, and creativity. An individual can enhance their intellectual wellbeing through personal reflection, their job or career, and cultural and community engagement.
Spiritual
Spiritual wellbeing is often misunderstood. While it can include religious or spiritual practices, it first addresses our openness and ability to understand and expand our personal definitions of purpose, duty, meaning, values, beliefs, and morals that guide decision-making within our lives. Spiritual wellbeing measures our ability or willingness to connect to our inner selves and those in our greater communities.
